Visible importance of libraries and librarians: Worldwide “live” online tours

What the project has already done

The project started in January 2021. Up to now, various topics of online tours and online talks have been conducted by professionals like librarians, faculty, archivists and with students using IT tools and various learning models.

Outcomes of the project:

  1. Change challenges of new age to new worldwide powers: With these online tours and talks and international connections, we have developed a worldwide “outreach digital library” together by combining library resources, e-services, user education and use of various IT tools e.g. Zoom, AR & VR.
  2. Trying out of different learning models including gamification, inquiry-based learning and collaborative learning for students and library users.
  3. Developing international partnerships and collaboration between professionals such as librarians, faculty and archivists. With international cooperation, this makes for wider content of online tours/talks and learning materials as well as being able to provide content in three languages: English, Japanese & Chinese.
  4. Making visible the importance of libraries, professionalism of librarians as well as enhancing our own skills. Also, we have shown libraries can provide various learning environments without boundaries of syllabus & physical libraries.
  5. Benefits to wider groups of people. This project can reach various groups (e.g faculty/teachers, students, church people, elderly and disabled people), not only for education, but can also provide leisure online activities, especially when we face the pandemic.
