Jane’s research interests relate to the role of libraries and librarians in meeting the information and education needs of their users. The scope of her research extends to the use of educational technologies to improve learning outcomes, and the role of information organisations within their communities. Particular research interests include the role of libraries and education in restricted and marginalized communities; the influence of libraries and librarians on education outcomes of users; the use of ICT in higher education; the use of educational technologies in restricted and remote environments; information organisations as community assets, and the history of prison libraries and reading. Her research into the role of libraries in prisons and the experiences of using them has attracted a high level of interest both in Australia and internationally.
